There were plenty of ways to make a living in the outer rings, and most of them involved either knowing exactly what you were doing or being too stubborn to admit when you didn't. Kayle had managed to build a life somewhere in between. Captain of the Gorjuss, salvage hauler, occasional pirate, and professional collector of things other people decided were no longer worth having, she and her crew had survived long enough to become good at the work and poor enough to keep doing it.
Then they found the Farguard.
A warship lost nearly three decades ago, drifting where no warship be, surrounded by the remains of a battle old enough that most people stopped caring who had won it. The Farguard should have been another wreck, another dead piece of history waiting to be stripped down and sold by the kilogram. Instead, she was intact. Her systems were still responding. And somewhere beneath all that armor was something worth enough to change the fortunes of everyone who could get their hands on it.
Kayle has never been particularly good at walking away from something dangerous when there's money involved.
Unfortunately, she is about to discover that some things are dangerous for reasons that have nothing to do with money.
With the Sovereignty taking an increasingly uncomfortable interest in their discovery and the past of the Farguard refusing to stay buried, Kayle and her crew are pulled into something far larger than a salvage job. What begins as an opportunity to finally put the Gorjuss and her crew on solid ground quickly becomes a question of survival, loyalty, and just how much a person can uncover before the thing they found starts uncovering them.
The Farguard has been waiting for twenty-eight years.
And now, someone has come aboard.
